Background
Historical Background
In 2003, this health facility became a specialized health center with VCT and PMTC services when the HIV/AIDS treatment services were beginning in the country. While it was a specialized health center, it was one of the referral centers for PMTCT services, providing specialized services to discordant couples, and participating in a big number of studies on discordant couples.
In 2009, due to expansion of the specialized services including additional of Isange One Stop Centre that were not being given elsewhere in the country, Kacyiru Health Center changed the status from a specialized health center to a referral hospital under the management of Rwanda National Police under the name of Kacyiru Police Hospital.
In 2016, the management of the Hospital was shifted from Rwanda National Police to Gasabo District as a District Hospital. Attached to this hospital is a National Forensic Laboratory under the management of MINIJUST; but, with the change of status from referral to district Hospital, the forensic laboratory remained with some shared facilities with the hospital, like the land title among others.
As a district hospital, Kacyiru hospital provided mainly services in maternal and child health, GBV referral Centre, Outpatient services, and other preventive and curative services.

Kacyiru Hospital is located on KN8 Ave, in Virunga village, Kibaza cell, Kacyiru Sector, Gasabo District, City of Kigali.
Actually, Kacyiru Hospital does not have a specific catchment area; but, it serves a big number of people mostly from Gasabo District and its neighboring Districts like Nyarugenge, Kicukiro, Kamonyi, Rulindo and other different areas from all around the country.
