Nursing Services are under the direction of the Nursing and Midwifery Department of the hospital. Nursing services are provided in all direct patient care units.
The Director of Nursing and Midwifery, together with individual unit nurse managers, is responsible for maintaining professional nursing standards at the hospital. This includes responsibility for standards of care and practice, performance assessment and improvement, policies and procedures, nursing staffing plans, personnel competency, and nursing licensure within the departments. Collaborative mechanisms have been established to ensure that these responsibilities are addressed in all areas throughout the organization where nursing care is provided.
The Director of Nursing and Midwifery assumes an active leadership role in the hospital’s decision-making structures and processes.
The Director of Nursing and Midwifery ensures that scheduling allows for the provision of nursing services in the hospital 24 hours a day, seven (7) days per week. Nursing care is delivered through comprehensive nursing assessment and care planning, patient education, medication administration, supervision, delegation, and evaluation. This includes the implementation of established nursing standards of care and practice.
